A magical season and incredible run through Super Region 2 came to an end Saturday night in Pueblo, Colorado as the Wolves fell 10-7 to the Colorado State Pueblo Thunderwolves in the NCAA Semifinal round on Saturday, December 13.
For the Wolves, they finish the season 12-3 in head coach Will Hall's first campaign in Carrollton. For the Thunderwolves, they move to 13-1 and earn a trip to the NCAA National Championship game next Saturday in Kansas City.
In a defensive game where both teams were held significantly below their season averages, the Wolves outgained the Thunderwolves 366 yards to 249 yards, but came up short in the end. Read more ...
For four teams who are left playing in NCAA Division II football nationally, one more win means a trip to Kansas City and a berth in the Division II National Championship game on Saturday, December 20. But this week, it will be a matchup of Wolves, as the West Georgia Wolves, region champs from Super Region 2, face off with the Colorado State-Pueblo Thunderwolves at the Thunderbowl in Pueblo, Colorado. Kickoff for the national semifinal will be at 6:30 p.m. (EST) and the game will be televised on ESPN3. There will also be a live telecast at The Amp in downtown Carrollton.

The West Georgia Wolves never trailed at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium Saturday afternoon in Valdosta, Georgia, using a smothering second half defensive effort to power their way to a 31-17 victory over Valdosta State in the NCAA Division II Quarterfinals. For just the second time in program history, a sport other than basketball will be playing in December, as the West Georgia Wolves roll into the NCAA Quarterfinals this Saturday. The Wolves will take on the Valdosta State Blazers in Valdosta at noon on Saturday, with a trip to the semifinals on the line.

The Wolves are headed to the NCAA quarterfinals after a dominating second-half effort Saturday afternoon at Parker Field in Cleveland, Mississippi, as 6th-seeded West Georgia took down second-seed Delta State with a 37-27 victory in the second round of the NCAA Division II playoffs. The Wolves are now 11-2 on the year for just the second time in school history, with the other 11-win season coming in the 1982 Division III national championship season.
The second half total team effort from the Wolves brought UWG back from a 27-21 deficit just before halftime, as UWG outscored the Statesmen 16-0 in the final 23 minutes of the game. The 2014 playoffs roll into the second round this week, as sixth-seeded West Georgia will head to Cleveland, Mississippi and Parker Field-McCool Stadium for a rematch of the seventh week of the season, when Delta State came to Carrollton and the Wolves handed them a 24-16 loss. The Wolves and Statesmen are scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. (EST) on Saturday, November 29.

For the first time in the more than 30 years of Division II football at the UWG, a 13th game will be played in a season, as the 6th-seeded West Georgia Wolves held off a second-half onslaught from 3rd-seeded and homestanding Tuskegee. The Wolves took a 20-17 victory, the first Division II playoff win for a West Georgia team in school history.
The game was everything that it was billed to be, as it was a slobber-knocking defensive battle from the outset that featured 18 punts between the two teams. West Georgia built a 13-0 lead in the first half, but it was a 27-yard touchdown pass from Dallas Dickey to Shaq Hall with 9:20 left in the game that proved to be the game-winner, as West Georgia's defense took over from there. The UWG women's basketball team remained unbeaten as they knocked off Peach Belt member Georgia Regents 56-55 in non-conference action Saturday night at The Coliseum. Senior Seandre Lee was feeling it tonight as she scored UWG's first nine points and 14 of their first 19 as the Wolves built an early 24-15 lead with 12:38 on the clock.
The Jaguars would fight back as a 7-0 run that lasted over four minutes brought the Jaguars back within two trailing 24-22 with just over five minutes to go in the first half. The Wolves would end the half on a 10-5 run, taking a 34-27 lead into the locker room at the break. Read more ...
After a 14-year drought, the West Georgia Wolves' football program is returning to the NCAA Division II Football Playoffs. UWG will travel Saturday to Alabama to face Tuskegee in the opening round of playoff action.

The University of West Georgia is providing a student bus to help the Wolves have a "Home in Rome" and to take the University Stadium atmosphere to Barron Stadium on Saturday, November 15 as UWG takes on the Shorter Hawks in the regular season finale.

The "Voice of UWG Athletics" now has a new title to add to his name, as West Georgia sports information director and play-by-play announcer Mitch Gray was inducted into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame in a ceremony on Saturday, October 25 at the Atlanta/Marietta Hilton Hotel at Conference Center.

The West Georgia Wolves, fresh off a 26-17 victory over 22nd-ranked West Alabama, moved up three spots in this week's American Football Coaches Association poll, going from 24th last week to 21st this week, as released Monday by the AFCA.
The Wolves moved to 5-0 for the first time since the 2000 season, when West Georgia was ranked in every week of the season and finished the year at 10-2 with a Gulf South Conference championship. University of West Georgia head coach Will Hall announced Friday morning that he and his staff have made adjustments to the original fall camp schedule, moving the majority of his afternoon practices over the next week up to 3 p.m. from 3:30 p.m. All practices will be open to the public.
