Wolves Remain Unbeaten After Win over GRU

by Matt Cooke

The UWG women's basketball team remained unbeaten as they knocked off Peach Belt member Georgia Regents 56-55 in non-conference action Saturday, November 22 at The Coliseum.

Wolves Remain Unbeaten After Win over GRU Senior Seandre Lee was feeling it as she scored UWG's first nine points and 14 of their first 19 as the Wolves built an early 24-15 lead with 12:38 on the clock.

The Jaguars would fight back as a 7-0 run that lasted over four minutes brought the Jaguars back within two trailing 24-22 with just over five minutes to go in the first half. The Wolves would end the half on a 10-5 run, taking a 34-27 lead into the locker room at the break.

The second half was a tight battle the whole way with neither team gaining much of an advantage as all five lead changes of the game came in the second half. A pair of free throws from Seandre would make the game 56-52 with just five seconds left. GRU would add a three-pointer but it would be too little, too late as the Wolves would preserve the victory.

Seandre finished the game with 19 points and five boards. Nicole Fasick would also reach double-digits for the Wolves, scoring 11 points on 3-of-6 shooting from three-point range. Taylor Beverly and Katrina Littlepage added eight points each, with Taylor pulling down seven rebounds. Senior Marion Lemonnier also had seven rebounds in the victory.

The Wolves move to 4-0 with the win, and will be back in action on Tuesday night as they travel to Milledgeville, Georgia to battle another in-state Peach Belt foe, Georgia College. Tip time is set for 5:30 p.m.
