Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Moreland truly represent the meaning of humility. After graduating as a finance major from the University of West Georgia in 1983, Leonard Moreland and his high school sweetheart Kay have made it a goal to give back to the university that started Leonard’s career. As a board member of several organizations, Leonard hopes to continue to raise the bar in education by providing more students with the opportunity to continue their education.
This year, Leonard has received the Regents’ Hall of Fame Alumni and Distinguished Friends Award in 2015 from the University System of Georgia (USG) and the Board of Regents. Read more ...
Fred '82 '85 '88 and Lillian O’Neal '86 are powerhouses in the local community, serving on the boards of multiple civic organizations and volunteering their time to better the lives of others. Fred has grown a successful career in Carrollton as a financial advisor the past 28 years while also contributing to UWG boards and committees.
Fred and Lillian have given tirelessly of their time and themselves to see that today’s youth have a better tomorrow. Now, they continue that legacy of selfless giving by bequeathing a portion of their estate to UWG to aid the university in recruiting and retaining a diverse student population. Read more ...
Dr. Robert L. Heaberlin, Jr. and the Heaberlin family recently made a donation to the University of West Georgia Foundation to fund facility enhancements for the newly renovated historic Newnan hospital. The historic Newnan hospital is now home to UWG Newnan with dual enrollment classes beginning this summer.
In recognition of his donation, Dr. Heaberlin will receive the naming of the UWG Newnan student study space in honor of his parents, retired Air Force Senior Master Sergeant Robert L. Heaberlin, Sr. and Louise Simonin Heaberlin. Read more ...
The University of West Georgia is proud to announce the establishment of the John T. Wasdin Endowed Scholarship in late April. John’s charitable donation establishes the John T. Wasdin Endowed Scholarship Fund for perpetuity. The scholarship will be awarded annually to UWG undergraduate student athletes majoring in business.
John T. Wasdin has been a generous lifelong supporter of the University of West Georgia, contributing to the success of students through the Wasdin Scholarship – established with his brother – and UWG athletics as a member of the Champions Council. John also selflessly dedicated his time and talents serving on the University of West Georgia Foundation Board of Trustees from 1984 until 1996. Read more ...
Just three years after launching a successful fundraising effort to collect $25,000 for an endowment to support scholarships for students of UWG alumni, the UWG Alumni Association has committed to doubling the endowment to $50,000.
In August 2012 under the leadership of then association president Rob Dial, the UWG Alumni Association Board of Directors established the Alumni Legacy Scholarship Fund, a $25,000 endowment to support scholarships for students of UWG alumni, with a lead gift by alumnus Rob Dial and his wife, alumna Emily Dial, an alumna of UWG. The funds were set to be raised in a period of five years, but the enthusiastic fundraising efforts of the alumni association met that goal two years earlier than expected. Read more ...
For Angie and Mike McConnell, the University of West Georgia holds a special place in their hearts. It’s where the couple of 28 years met. It’s where they met long-lasting friends. It’s the university Mike represented at the 1982 football championship. It’s where they had a one-of-a-kind educational experience.
“Some of the best moments in our lives started when we were in Carrollton [at UWG] together,” Mike recalled.

A recent $25,000 donation from Walmart is supporting a new program to reach out to high school and middle school educators hosted by the Center for Economic Education (CEE) – a cooperative venture of the Richards College of Business and the College of Education at the University of West Georgia (UWG).
The workshops held throughout Georgia allow teachers to learn more about a new virtual tool called “Econmentor.” The Econmentor website will assist teachers and offer them access to instructional materials, like AP economics course outlines, study tools, and learning games – like the Stock Market Game – to engage students. The University of West Georgia athletics program has formed the Champions Council, an elite group of athletics supporters whose generosity will be key in shaping the program into a consistent contender on the national level.
“The Champions Council will leave an impactful legacy for future generations,” said Athletic Director Daryl Dickey. “It will transform the UWG student athlete experience and build champions on the field and in the classroom.”

The University of West Georgia recently honored the generosity of its highest level donors and welcomed them into the 1906 Society at a ceremony held in the Campus Center Ballroom. UWG President Dr. Kyle Marrero recognized 50 members who attended the ceremony and presented them with bronze medallions.
"The 1906 Medallion recipients represent donors who have made multi-year, ongoing commitments to support UWG and its students and programs,” he said. “They have built a foundation of giving that helped this institution to succeed and provide the shoulders on which we now stand as we forge the New West." A visiting artist series is now a reality at the University of West Georgia thanks to the gracious gift of $50,000 from Michael and Andrea Stone.
The Michael and Andrea Stone Visiting Artist Series will bring artists from around the world to visit UWG and share their art and talents with students and the community through special master classes and performances.
