The University of West Georgia is proud to announce the establishment of the John T. Wasdin Endowed Scholarship in late April. John’s charitable donation establishes the John T. Wasdin Endowed Scholarship Fund for perpetuity. The scholarship will be awarded annually to UWG undergraduate student athletes majoring in business.

John T. Wasdin has been a generous lifelong supporter of the University of West Georgia, contributing to the success of students through the Wasdin Scholarship – established with his brother – and UWG athletics as a member of the Champions Council. John also selflessly dedicated his time and talents serving on the University of West Georgia Foundation Board of Trustees from 1984 until 1996.
“I decided to establish the scholarship because I recognize that many scholarships are not ongoing for the full four years of school. I want to support the retention and graduation efforts of UWG, by helping students stay in school and achieve their goals,” John said.
UWG President Dr. Kyle Marrero attended the scholarship signing and thanked John and his wife Mitzi for leading the way for others. “Thank you for your legacy, commitment, and dedication to UWG. Scholarships are an integral part of the success of UWG. Your gift highlights the belief and support of local business and community leaders to UWG and creates a true investment in what we are doing here,” Dr. Marrero said.
John grew up in a small Georgia town not far from his home in Carrollton, which he shares with his wife, Mitzi. John earned a B.B.A. degree with a major in accounting as well as his law degree from the University of Georgia. After graduating from law school he opened a law practice in Bremen to provide clients with advice and counsel in the areas of business law, commercial entities and transactions, estate planning, estate tax matters, and wealth preservation and transfer in the west Georgia area.
“I have worked with three generations of people in small family businesses and know business efforts mean a lot to the community and to education. No matter what you do, you need some knowledge of business and economics to succeed. I am so thankful I am in a position to offer something to students and to UWG.”
