The University of West Georgia is moving forward in its efforts to not only serve its students, faculty, and staff, but to also integrate with Carrollton’s pedestrian and bike infrastructure. Crews are working on the perimeter of West Georgia Drive to install bike lanes.
A campus committee was formed in fall 2014 to look into the possibility of a bike program at UWG. The committee is co-chaired by Brendan Bowen, assistant vice president for Campus Planning and Facilities and Mark Reeves, assistant vice president for Auxiliary Services. Read more ...
It is with great sadness that the University of West Georgia announces the passing of Mary Ann Myers on Thursday, July 16. She fought her long-term battle with cancer with a spirit and tenacity that has been an inspiration to everyone.
Mary Ann was a beloved staff member who served as the departmental assistant with College of Education for 20 years, and she will be sorely missed. She was a member of Mt. Holly Church of God and the Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Tina Myers of Carrollton, and three grandchildren, Kaylee Karakos, McKenzie Myers, and Lilly Ann Myers, all of Carrollton. Read more ...
The University of West Georgia is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. David J. Fraboni II as vice president for university advancement and executive director of the UWG Foundation effective July 6, 2015. Mr. Fraboni will be responsible to the President for overseeing the advancement division, which includes Alumni Relations, Development, Advancement Services, Special Events, and University Communications and Marketing.

UWG recently earned a bronze star rating from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education’s Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, and Rating System (STARS). The award is the most recent accolade received by UWG reflecting its increased commitment to renewable resources. The reporting process began as an effort to benchmark and assess the university’s commitment to environmental, social, and economic sustainability.

The University of West Georgia's summer commencement ceremonies will be held on Saturday, July 25 at 9 a.m. in UWG's Coliseum. For those unable to attend the ceremony in person, it will also be streamed online at www.westga.edu/commencement.php. State Senator Mike Dugan will provide the commencement address.
Sen. Dugan was elected to the State Senate for Georgia’s 30th District in early 2013. He represents portions of Carroll, Douglas, and Paulding counties, and in 2015, he was selected to serve as one of Governor Nathan Deal’s Senate floor leaders.
He is the secretary of the Veterans, Military, and Homeland Security and of the Public Safety committees. Read more ...
University of West Georgia President Kyle Marrero and several UWG representatives recently traveled to Shanghai and Chongqing, China to sign updated exchange program and study abroad agreements with the Shanghai University of International Business and Economics (SUIBE) and Southwest University (SWU).

Summertime in Carrollton, Georgia is all about the outdoors, from hitting the lake to jogging the greenbelt to enjoying a host of live music concerts. The Amphitheatre, or the Amp, located in Adamson Square, offers a summer concert series boasting a variety of local artists from many different musical genres.

University of West Georgia’s Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) recently held its fifth annual sock drive in celebration of Older Americans Month. Students, alumni, and CDI staff delivered a total of 813 socks to four nursing homes in Carrollton—Carrollton Manor, Carrollton Nursing and Rehabilitation, the Oaks of Carrollton, and Pine Knoll Nursing and Rehabilitation—and Haralson Nursing and Rehabilitation in Haralson County.
This year’s sock drive was co-sponsored by the Student Government Association (SGA), the Panhellenic Council, the National Pan-Hellenic Council, the Interfraternity Council, and the Black Student Alliance. The University of West Georgia’s Department of Continuing Education invites kids to join a holistic, fun learning environment through various summer camp programs. UWG summer camps offer something for everybody, from general science to insects to arts and film, and more. Through these vital programs, children not only cultivate meaningful relationships with others who have similar interests, but they also receive an early glimpse at collegiate life that could create a genuine hunger for life long learning.

On May 1, the Professional Association of Academic Advisors (PAAA) at the University of West Georgia held an end-of-year luncheon and presented the 2014-2015 Faculty Advisor of the Year and Staff Advisor of the Year awards. The awards were established by PAAA with the desire to encourage and reward excellence, creativity, and effectiveness in professional student advisement on UWG’s campus. Selection of the award winners relies on confidential nominations.
