The University of West Georgia will offer a new and unique online bachelor of science degree in organizational leadership, thanks to its membership in the University System of Georgia’s eMajor program.
eMajor is a collaborative program that enables colleges and universities to offer career-ready, high-demand degrees and certificates in an online setting with a focus on quality and affordability.
The online organizational leadership program is ideal for traditional students who wish to take advantage of online course delivery, as well as for working professionals, military members, transfer students, and others seeking flexible routes to degree completion.
“The organizational leadership program is a welcome addition to our undergraduate degree offerings in the university college,” said Dr. N. Jane McCandless, dean of the College of Social Sciences. “We are committed to meeting the dynamic needs of today's students, and organizational leadership is now our fourth fully-online bachelor's degree, our first through the eMajor collaborative. We expect students, especially adult learners, will be drawn to and connect with the nature of the organizational leadership curriculum and appreciate the flexibility of the online program.”
The program is delivered fully online through the University System of Georgia’s eMajor initiative in collaboration with Dalton State College, Darton State College, and Ft. Valley State University. The primary aim of eMajor is to provide quality, innovative, high-demand degree programs through traditional institutions. A cornerstone of USG eMajor is the inclusion of prior learning assessment.
“The University of West Georgia has long been a front-runner and pioneer in quality online learning,” said Dr. Melanie N. Clay, executive director of extended learning and dean of USG eCampus. “The degree in organizational leadership represents a bold approach to meeting the needs of a new generation of learners. It’s a real game changer for students who had previously found too many barriers to finishing their degrees.”
The format of the degree shortens the pathway to graduation by allowing a large number of electives and personalization, as well as the opportunity for students to earn college credit by demonstrating prior learning through assessment, documentation, and portfolios. Among the typical ways that students gain prior learning are professional experiences, the military, training, travel, community work, and personal study.
This program provides for a specific track in public service, but the program’s core focus on communication, ethics, organizational development, project management, and leadership will enable graduates to leverage the degree for work or advancement in a broad range of careers in the public, community, non-profit, and private sectors.
