SOTA Reaches Out to Community with Imagine West!

by Taylor Kilgore

The University of West Georgia’s School of the Arts (SOTA) presents the fourth annual Imagine West!, where students from the disciplines of art, music, creative writing, film, and theatre will perform. Imagine West! amps up the arts for a night of prizes, entertainment, and fun for the whole family. This event is free to the public and will take place Saturday, September 19, at The AMP at Adamson Square with a student emcee to entertain the crowd. Pre-show activities start at 6 p.m. followed by the SOTA show at 7:30 p.m. Mark your calendars for a night your family cannot miss.

SOTA Reaches Out to Community with Imagine West!“Imagine West! is a great way for the community to see what our art's programs are all about,” said SOTA Director Chad Davidson. “Film, art, music, creative writing, theatre: we have it all, and our talented faculty and students take this night to show off a bit of what they do so well. It's a festival-type atmosphere, great for the entire family.”

Prior to the start of the show, children are invited to participate in the “Imagination Station,” which includes face painting, puppet building, and piano stepping. The main event will include shows by the University of West Georgia marching band, the saxophone ensemble, student film pieces, the comical non-fiction of Lucas Chance, and performances by UWG theatre students. Student art will also be on display in between performance pieces.

Sponsors this year include Plates, Underground Books, the Times-Georgian, Gallery Row, and many others. Sponsorship levels include $250, $500, and $700. Last year, eight entities bought event tables. Each table is only $50, and anyone at a table can participate in a contest for the best decorated table. The prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be a $50 gift certificate to Plates and a UWG “SWAG bag.” For other gifts, SOTA T-shirts will be for sale. Complementary copies of UWG’s Eclectic arts and literary magazine and SOTA calendars will also be available. All proceeds will go to the UWG SOTA student fund to keep our artists excelling.
