Princeton Review Names UWG Among Best Colleges in Southeast

by Rebecca Hightower

The University of West Georgia has been named by The Princeton Review one of the 138 “Best Colleges in the Southeast.” In addition to Georgia, The Princeton Review includes the following states in the Southeast region: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

Princeton Review Names UWG Among Best Colleges in Southeast “We're proud to again be chosen a Princeton Review Best Southeastern College. We feel this ranking reflects our dedication to student success and it is another step toward our vision of becoming the best comprehensive university in America -- sought after as the best place to work, learn and succeed," said Dr. Kyle Marrero, president of UWG.

The Princeton Review endorses only 648 colleges and schools nationwide, approximately 25 percent of all four-year institutions. The endorsement is based on outstanding academic programs, and an independent online student survey. Colleges are separated by region but are not ranked academically or from 1 to 648 in any category. The Princeton Review is an education services company known for its test-prep courses, tutoring, books, and other student resources. Headquartered in Framingham, Massachusetts, The Princeton Review is a privately held company that is not affiliated with Princeton University.

According to the ‘UWG Students Say’ section, The Princeton Review reports that students love the business and education programs, but also note that UWG is well-regarded for its “great biology program,” “one of the best nursing programs in the state” and “one of the best humanistic psychology programs in the country.” The Princeton Review also noted the Advanced Academy of Georgia, a residential, early-entrance program for high school students that allows high school juniors and seniors to get a head start on their college educations. The students surveyed also praised the accessibility of both professors and outside tutoring resources.
