President Emeritus Sethna Meets Indian Prime Minister, AmbassadorUniversity of West Georgia President Emeritus Dr. Beheruz N. Sethna recently met the Prime Minister of India H. E. Narendra Modi at a private dinner in New York City, held by Ambassador of India Dr. S. Jaishankar.

“Since he is the elected leader of the world's largest democracy, it was indeed an honor to meet him,” shared Dr. Sethna. “He spoke about India's challenges and great potential, and he is a very charismatic speaker.”

It was the first visit to the United States for Prime Minister Modi, who took office in April 2014. After meeting with President Barack Obama and addressing the United Nations General Assembly, he spoke to a crowd at the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park about the need for clean water, healthcare, and sanitation.

Dr. Sethna was born and raised in India and has been a U.S. citizen for more than 30 years. He was the first known person of Indian origin ever to become president of a university in the U.S.

Dr. Sethna also recently attended a separate dinner hosted by Consul-General Ajit Singh and again met Ambassador Jaishankar, who has been in office since December 2013.

“We spoke of many topics concerning the two greatest democracies in the world, and how to continue to enhance these relationships,” he said. “As always, I was able to brag about UWG in some conversations with a few people.”
