Although he’s been at the helm at the University of West Georgia for a little over a year now, Dr. Kyle Marrero will be officially sworn in as the 7th president throughout a series of inauguration and homecoming celebration events September 18-20.
A Speaker Series, “Values – A Discussion in Leadership” is the kick-off event on Thursday, September 18. It will bring together successful and impactful leaders to discuss core values, values which UWG is striving to integrate into its daily operation and methodology. The Speaker Series will be held in the Townsend Center, beginning at 7 p.m.
On Friday, September 19 Dr. Marrero will be inaugurated in an Investiture Ceremony in The Coliseum. The ceremony will include many local and state political leaders as well as delegates representing UWG and other academic institutions. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. with the doors opening at 8 a.m. Classes will be cancelled between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
At 5 p.m., there will be an unveiling and dedication of the bronze wolf at the new Wolves Plaza at University Stadium. Wolves Plaza will serve as a gathering and tailgating area just behind the student seating section. The statue will serve as a pinnacle for new traditions with Wolves Athletics.
Then, lace up those running shoes for the Inaugural Presidential 5K: Connecting Campus to Community, which will begin at 6 p.m. Participants will begin the race at Z-6, and end on Adamson Square just in time for the Wolves Capture the Square pep rally and concerts! The 5K will benefit the Carrollton Greenbelt.
The excitement will continue on into the night as the Wolves Capture the Square. Have dinner at your favorite restaurant on the square and then come on down to the Amp at 7:30 p.m. for a pep rally, followed by a special concert event at 8 p.m. with The Lost Trailers. Carrollton’s own Groove Gypsies will be the concert opener.
The UWG Homecoming Parade will be Saturday morning at 10 a.m. At 2 p.m., the Wolves will take on Johnson C. Smith at University Stadium.
A Scholarship Gala will take place on Saturday night in the Campus Center Ballroom. The Gala will begin with a champagne salute at 6:30 p.m., with dinner and program at 7 p.m. Music and dancing will follow on the Campus Center patio. Several scholarship opportunities are available for this black tie optional event.
