The University of West Georgia and the Carrollton community are facing a unique opportunity this coming weekend to help combat hunger, both internationally and locally.
The Stop Hunger Now event will be in the UWG Coliseum on Saturday, February 21, followed by the Carroll County Empty Bowls Project on Sunday, February 22 at the Carroll County Ag Center. Both events promise to provide hours of community service and volunteer opportunities.
The Stop Hunger Now Meal Packaging Program, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Carrollton, is also supported by the UWG Center for Student Involvement and the Wesley Foundation. The theme for this event is “From your hands to their tummies.”
Volunteers are being sought to assist with packaging meals, which is a fun and hands-on international mission project for everyone involved, while promoting a cooperative effort within the community.
Volunteer registration begins at 9 a.m. at The Coliseum. For more information or to volunteer for this event, contact Larry Frazier at 770-596-1451 or visit www.stophungernow.org.
Another hands-on and fun activity is the Carroll County Empty Bowls Project on Sunday, February 22 at the Carroll County Ag Center.
Local artists and groups will have the opportunity to create and donate bowls, which are then sold with a serving of soup, made and donated by local chefs, on the day of the event.
All proceeds go to the Carroll County Soup Kitchen. Last year, approximately $25,000 was raised through this event to provide financial support to the soup kitchen.
As with the Stop Hunger Now event, many volunteers are needed for the Empty Bowls Project, both on the day of the event and the day before.
