The University of West Georgia Housing and Residence Life is excited to announce a new partnership with the Education Realty Trust (EDR), the second largest off-campus student housing company in the United States. Together, this partnership aims at increasing retention, progression, and graduation, as UWG’s support services are expanding outside of the traditional campus boundaries.

UWG’s goal is that the agreement will allow students who choose to reside off-campus to continue receiving support and guidance, similar to that offered while living on-campus. Currently, the two apartment complexes in partnership are Carrollton Crossing and River Pointe.
“I believe that it is beneficial for our students who have a plethora of off-campus choices to know that only these two properties cater to students,” said Timothy Reilly, assistant director for administrative operations for housing and residence life.
“EDR residents will be able to enjoy a positive educational environment similar to what they experienced their first year in our on-campus residence halls.”
Often, students tend to move off campus to become more independent. UWG students can be sure that this initiative supports their freedom to be more autonomous, while still providing them with the means to stay connected to our campus.
“Our goal is not to go out there and increase any rules,” said Stephen Whitlock, director of housing and residence life. “Our goal is to take resources to them.”
Recognized off-campus apartment units will meet industry standard design, development, and operational standards, which are mutually agreed upon between UWG and the apartment complex. The off-campus facilities must provide security, employ a full-time manager, and maintain a certificate of insurance.
One of the major incentives for students who decide to live in the partnered off-campus apartments is the option to change roommates if needed.
“This can help students see the value in the ability to make a room change and why that is important for the success of our students and program,” said Stephen.
Students will have access to UWG’s dedicated call center, staffed 24 hours per day/365 days per year, to assist with resident issues, such as lockout services.
This mutually beneficial partnership will also offer the off-campus housing staff the opportunity to participate in staff/leadership meetings with UWG housing staff.
“We are very excited about this opportunity to work more closely with the university,” said Faith Mapson, community manager at Carrollton Crossing. “I feel our residents and future residents will greatly benefit from the additional resources provided by the university through this partnership.”
