UWG President, Provost Featured on The Balancing Act Morning Show on Lifetime

by Julie Lineback

University of West Georgia President Kyle Marrero and Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs J. Micheal Crafton will appear on the award-winning talk show The Balancing Act® airing on Lifetime Television on Thursday, July 31 and Thursday, August 7 at 7 a.m. EST. The show is a national program that brings today's on-the-go women positive solutions and cutting-edge ideas to help balance their busy lives. The duo will highlight how UWG's online learning programs are making college more affordable and accessible.

“At UWG, it is important for our institution to continue its leadership role in developing and delivering innovative and flexible online programs,” explains Dr. Marrero. “The opportunity to talk about UWG's strategic initiatives in this area, the current and projected markets on the Balancing Act validates our positioning and more importantly informs prospective students of the many options and opportunities.”

UWG was recently recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top online programs in the nation for 2014, including a WebMBA program ranking of fourth nationally and an online graduate computer information technology program ranking of 12th nationally. Other online programs, such as the online graduate nursing program, online graduate education program and online bachelor’s program in criminology, received high rankings as well.

“I think what sets us apart from the others is our longtime work in the consortial areas of eCore and WebMBA, both of which are excellent programs,” says Dr. Crafton. “We were at the table when these two programs were developed and have been committed to excelling with them ever since.”

Affordable Colleges Online also named UWG number 12 in its Most Affordable Online College Degree Programs list last year. Thousands of colleges were analyzed and the top 54 with the most affordable online programs were ranked.

Although West Georgia is now getting recognized as a leader in the world of online education, Dr. Crafton believes the real value that its programs provide is yet to be fully recognized.

Online courses are available at UWG for both undergraduate and graduate students seeking flexibility in time and location.

“Working with a variety of students, colleges and universities has forced us to strive toward success through innovation, attention to detail and the students’ needs,” concludes Dr. Crafton. “Our online general education program, the eCore, has success rates in most classes that match or exceed more traditional programs, and it has some support structures that far exceed traditional settings.”
