Happy Independence Day, West Georgia!

As the holiday weekend approaches, fireworks, parades, free concerts, and more fill every corner of the state.

Several local cities, including Carrollton and Villa Rica, will be offering parades or festivals, music, and fireworks shows to illuminate the sky over the course of the next few days. The University of West Georgia wishes you a fun and safe holiday weekend. Here’s your guide to some of the best shows and events in the area:

Happy Independence Day, West Georgia! Friday, July 3rd:

Villa Rica: From 5 p.m. until fireworks end. Come be a part of the WOW factor at the Villa Rica Civic Center & Sports Complex (V-Plex). Enjoy music, face painting, inflatable slides and other activities. Limited parking is available at the park. Concession stands are available for refreshments. Bring your lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the evening. - See more at: www.exploregeorgia.org

Saturday, July 4th:

Carrollton: Carrollton’s People’s Parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 4th. The route will follow the typical parade route from Dairy Queen to K-Mart.

The Carroll Symphony Orchestra is preparing once again to thrill the community with the sounds and sights of the 2015 Sounds of Liberty Concert. The 2015 Sounds of Liberty Concert begins at 8:30 p.m. on July 4th. This event will be held on the grounds of the Carrollton Elementary School. The launch site for the fireworks show is across Ben Scott Boulevard from the concert stage and will be located between the practice football field and the baseball field by Carrollton Junior High School. - See more at: www.carrolltonmainstreet.com/july-4th-parade

Newnan: Newnan will celebrate the 4th of July with its annual downtown parade starting at 8:30 a.m. followed by the Monthly Market Day from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. Pickin’ on the Square will begin at 11 a.m. on July 4th around the Court House Square. Here, you can expect to enjoy the vernacular sounds of local musicians playing acoustic music around the Court House Lawn. Admission to the fireworks show is free. Gates will open at Drake Stadium at 5:30, the patriotic program, concessions, live music, and family entertainment will begin at 6 p.m. Fireworks will begin promptly at dark. - See more at: www.mycoweta.com

Sunday, July 5th:

Stone Mountain: Stone Mountain Park hosts a four day celebration from July 2-July 5. Visit the park for a not-to-be-missed Atlanta tradition, the laser show that promises to wow your family with state-of-the-art digital graphics and awe-inspiring effects. The show includes a lighting feature at the base of the mountain shining up like fingers of light showcasing the 825-foot mountainside followed by award winning fireworks display. - See more at: www.stonemountainpark.com
