Steve and Marie Swope recently made a donation to the University of West Georgia Foundation to provide financial support for UWG Newnan. The contribution will be used to fund facility enhancements. The couple has lived in Newnan for almost 30 years, and in recognition of their donation, Steve and Marie will receive the naming of a solarium.
“We were both very pleased when we learned that UWG would be utilizing the old Newnan Hospital for the UWG Newnan Center,” says Steve. “We hoped that the old hospital building could be put to good use and benefit the community. Since we both had to work full time in order to pay for our college education, supporting a school that provides educational opportunities locally was important to us.”
Steve’s background is in revenue management. After working for powerhouses like Delta Air Lines, he began his own firm called Rubicon, which provided business intelligence for the travel industry until it was sold to TravelClick in 2011. He is currently a deacon at St. George Catholic Church in Newnan and the president of GWTW Partners, LLC, the company that owns and oversees the rights to Margaret Mitchell’s Gone with the Wind.
Marie worked for Oxford Chemical Company as a marketing representative and wrote data for new chemicals before taking time off to raise their children, Matthew and Jennifer. She wrapped up her career at Delta in the corporate records department handling contracts.
“We both believe in assisting students who may be financially challenged so that they may further their education. We also like to support development and growth in Newnan,” Marie concludes. “Supporting the UWG Newnan Center was a way that we could accomplish both of these objectives.”
