The University of West Georgia Newnan Center is continuing to expand, both in size and academics, in preparation for the new renovated campus at the Newnan Hospital location.
UWG-Newnan awarded eight scholarships totaling to $6,300 in spring 2013. This is an increase from spring 2012 in which the eight scholarships awarded totaled to $3,800. The center currently averages 500 to 600 students per semester, 75 percent of which are undergraduate students. The students are continuing to excel, as evidenced by the 97.9 percent undergraduate student completion rate and 99.1 percent graduate student completion rate this year. The students range in age from 16 to 73, with the average age being 29.
The center offers bachelor’s, master’s and specialist degree in a variety of fields including business, nursing and education. The entire core curriculum is available online through eCore and a select core curriculum is also available in a classroom setting. Along with the new building, which will provide 51,000-square-feet of usable space, UWG-Newnan is also planning to expand and add to the list of offered programs which will be house.
Not only will the new location for the UWG-Newnan center provide sustainable knowledge for its students, it will also contribute economically. The new location at the Newnan Hospital is projected to generate $21 million in 2013-2014 and a gain of $1.4 million to $3.4 million in community revenue is projected annually. The new location will increase the skilled labor force and create approximately 175 new jobs.
