In October, UWG Health Services traveled to the Newnan Center to help administer the flu vaccine. Under the supervision of Dr. Leslie Cottrell, director of UWG Health Services, and Kelly Smith, RN and director of nursing for UWG Health Services, senior UWG Newnan nursing students administered the shots to students, faculty and staff.
“This is a model from our Carrollton campus in which the School of Nursing has a mass inoculation day at the Coliseum,” says Dr. Cottrell.
“We gave about 50-60 shots that day,” says Kelly. “We are going to try to offer this to the Newnan campus every year.”
The event is part of an initiative by Student Affairs and Enrollment Management to expand student affairs services to the Newnan Center. Trish Causey is currently in Newnan to assess the needs there and enhance the lives of students.
“Nursing and education majors are compulsed by their rotations to get a flu shot,” says Dr. Cottrell. “Trish coordinated with us to have a flu shot opportunity at the Newnan campus to meet these needs.”
“This is a good project for us to continue with Newnan,” Dr. Cottrell concludes. “We’re happy to support the campus as it continues to grow.”
