Student Researchers to Present at National Conference for 15th Year in A Row

Four University of West Georgia students’ presentations were accepted for the 2013 National Collegiate Honors Council Conference, taking place this fall. Students Amaan Kazerouni, Ayaan Kazerouni, Sarah Saltiel and Osayame Gaius-Obaseki, will travel with UWG’s Honors College to New Orleans, Louisiana, in November to present their research for this year’s conference themed “Conflict, Transformation, Creolization.”

The annual NCHC conference, which attracts students from across the country, provides students and instructors with networking opportunities and one-on-one time with experienced consultants in honors, teaching, learning and administration.

Juniors, Amaan and Ayaan, and freshman, Sarah, will present “The Marketing Carnival Approach-Chick-fil-A.” Their presentation will provide a description of the Marketing Carnival Approach to gathering statistical data, followed by results of Chi-Square, correlations, hypothesis tests and regression analysis. Junior Osayame will present “Black Studies and the Revolution in Intercollegiate Debate,” an exploration of the 1971 Keep America Beautiful public service announcement widely known as the Crying Indian PSA.

UWG’s Dean of the Honors College Dr. Michael Hester will lead a panel discussion with Osayame on “Black Studies and the Revolution in Intercollegiate Debate.” Panelists will discuss the increase in African-American participation in intercollegiate policy debate, and the growing development of Afro-focused philosophy as an argument research.

UWG remains among the top with undergraduate researchers who have completed substantial scholarly work and been accepted for presentations at state, regional and national conferences. Since 1998, UWG has been represented at the conference, and had more student research presenters than any other college or university in the nation in 8 of those 15 years.
