University of West Georgia graduate student, Johnny Holloway, is a quarterfinalist for the U.S. 2013 Grammy's Music Educator Award. The award is presented by the Recording Academy and the Grammy Foundation.
Johnny is a graduate student at UWG where he is studying to receive his Master’s in Music Education degree and is also currently a chorus teacher at Evans Middle School in Newnan, Georgia.
He is one of 217 music teachers from 195 cities across 45 states that have been announced as quarterfinalists for the award. More than 30,000 initial nominations were submitted from all 50 states.
His experience at UWG has influenced his approach to teaching. “My UWG classes have taught me that experiential, hands-on learning is best,” he says. “I’ve certainly benefitted from it, and I hope to always do the same for my students as well. I want to inspire them to create, no matter where their paths lead."
The award will be presented to one outstanding music teacher that has shown remarkable impact on his or her students' lives.
Johnny is passionate about music and teaching, and one of his goals as a teacher is to prepare his students for the real world. “Of course we cover music theory and all aspects of performance,” explains Johnny. “But I feel it’s important to teach them the business side as well. I want them to be able to transform their passions into a way of life.”
