A long and prestigious career has earned recognition for one UWG coach as University of West Georgia head baseball coach Skip Fite was named this week as an inductee in the 2013 class of the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame.

Coach Fite, who has been a collegiate coach in the state of Georgia for many years, is entering his fifth season in the spring of 2014 as the head coach at UWG. Prior to that, he spent 25 seasons at cross-state rival Augusta State, now Georgia Regents University and also three seasons at Brewton-Parker, giving Fite 32 years of service to baseball in the state of Georgia.
"I feel humbled to be included on this distinguished list of coaches," Coach Fite says. "It's a great honor and there are some incredible names on this list, but I attribute this award to the great players who have played for me and the assistants who have coached beside me."
One such player is also among the 2013 Hall of Fame class, as longtime Cartersville head coach Stuart Chester will also be inducted this year. Stuart played collegiately for Coach Fite before becoming one of the more successful coaches in Georgia High School baseball history.
"It's really a double-honor to be inducted with one of my former players," Coach Fite adds. "Stuart has done an incredible job at Cartersville and he is very deserving of this honor."
The induction ceremony will take place on January 18 at the Ravinia Crowne Plaza hotel in Atlanta at 10 a.m. He will join a list of coaches that includes former GSC great Tommy Thomas from Valdosta State, among others.
"This is such a tremendous honor for coach Fite to receive this induction into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame," said UWG Athletic Director Daryl Dickey. "We are proud to have Skip as our coach here at UWG and congratulate him on this honor."
