The Georgia Lottery is coming to the University of West Georgia to give students a chance to win scholarships while attending athletic games with its sports-based program “Dollars for Scholars.” UWG’s first spring semester Georgia Lottery HOPE game is scheduled for Thursday, January 16, as the Wolves take on Valdosta State University at 7:30 p.m. in the UWG Coliseum. One qualified student will win the first $1,000 prize at this Thursday's game.
“Dollars for Scholars” is a promotion that allows students to have a chance to win one of five $1,000 scholarships and one full-year scholarship. UWG dollars for one-year tuition scholarship totals $13,703.
Along with UWG, other state schools participating in the promotion include: Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia Southern University, Kennesaw State University, Mercer University, Savannah State University, Valdosta State University and Georgia State University. Each university is identifying five Georgia Lottery HOPE games.
At each Georgia Lottery HOPE game, students will receive specially coded wristbands from pregame until the end of the first half to participate in random Georgia Lottery drawings for chances to win a tuition scholarship prize of $1,000 cash.
To participate, students must be 18 years of age or older and enrolled at the participating university at the time of the entry into the promotion with a university-issued email address. Distribution is limited to one wristband per student per “Georgia Lottery HOPE Game.”
Students also must enter the unique code from the wristband on the website www.GADollarsforScholars.com to be eligible for the one-year tuition scholarship or to win a new Segway. One Segway drawing will be held for each participating university after the conclusion of the promotion period ending March 31, 2014. In each Segway drawing, one entry will be randomly selected as a Segway drawing winner from all eligible entries received during the promotion. The Segway winners will be drawn from the total number of eligible entries received for each participating university. Segway prize winners will each win a Segway i2 Personal Transporter.
The final two Georgia Lottery HOPE games include UWG men’s basketball team versus Shorter University on Tuesday, February 25, at 7:30 p.m. at the UWG Coliseum and the UWG baseball team versus Florida Institute of Technology on Friday, March 7, at 5:00 p.m. at UWG’s Cole Field. Two $1000 scholarships were given in the 2013 fall semester at two UWG football games.
Since inception, the Georgia Lottery has returned more than $14.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. More than 1.6 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.3 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
