As a third generation UWG alum myself, the message of Going West is one that comes naturally to me given my experience here as a student. As a transfer student to UWG, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to find a great fit at UWG after attending a large institution. Once I was here, I was able to thrive and grow through my program as a German major.
I am someone who found their “place.” I was encouraged to try new opportunities outside of the classroom to enrich my collegiate career. I presented undergraduate research for the campus-wide Big Night competition; I participated in Kaffeestunde & Total Immersion Weekends at Tanner State Park with my German cohort; and I experienced university life and the World Cup in another country through my study abroad experience in Germany. It is through experiences like these that I am able to help students envision themselves West, finding their own path here at UWG as I have done.
As I am able to enjoy UWG football games with my son, as a future fourth generation Wolf, I am reminded of all the reasons I chose to attend UWG, chose to work at UWG, and continue to support the institution that had such a tremendous impact on me. Whether it is the draw of tradition felt through the oaks on Front Campus Drive, beautiful fall backdrops in October, the excitement surrounding Preview Day or graduation, or the buzz of energy felt walking across the bricks by the UCC, the University of West Georgia is a place where I cannot help to feel connected to.
Often known as the “gateway to the University,” the Office of Admissions is committed to the Go West message to anyone who will listen through high schools and college fairs across the state of Georgia, providing excellent customer service to prospective students of all ages, convincing parents that their students will thrive West, hosting lively campus visit programs, and ensuring that the University is in compliance with USG policy. We embrace all of these functions all while working each year to bring in the best and brightest incoming class and greater enrollment.
Each time I meet with a prospective student, give a presentation, or simply help with a visit program, I am reminded that I am contributing to helping them decide where they will spend the best four years of their life. To know that I am helping them by offering an unmatched experience to explore, develop, make lifelong connections, and better themselves through the pursuit of a college degree is so rewarding. It is calling for me!
