The University of West Georgia’s Office of University Communications and Marketing was once again recognized with a national creative award for the “Go West” campaign. UCM, along with Mindpower Incorporated, won the Silver Award for television advertising at the Higher Education Marketing Report’s 28th Annual Educational Advertising Awards.
“I am honored that the inspiring creative work achieved by UWG and marketing partner Mindpower Incorporated, has been recognized for a third consecutive year by Higher Educational Marketing Report,” says Jami Bower, assistant vice president for University Communications and Marketing at UWG. “The ‘Go West’ branding campaign continues to provide a solid anchor for differentiating UWG, increasing the public’s awareness of the university, telling our many success stories, bolstering school spirit and increasing enrollment.”
UWG was recognized in the category of universities with 10,000 to 19,999 students and ranked above other universities including Wichita State University, receiving the Bronze Award, Davenport University, University of Central Missouri and University of Wyoming, each receiving a Merit Award. A national panel of higher education marketers, advertising creative directors, marketing and advertising professionals, and the editorial board of Higher Education Marketing Report served as the 2013 judges.
The Educational Advertising Awards is the largest educational advertising awards competition in the country, and this year, HEMR reported receiving nearly 3,000 competition entries from more than 1,000 colleges, universities and secondary schools in all 50 states and several foreign countries. For the last 28 years, the Higher Education Marketing Report has been the leading marketing publication for higher education professionals and is read each month by thousands of higher education marketers at colleges and universities nationwide, according to the HEMR website.
Initially, the UWG “Go West” television advertisement series introduced three students making the important decision to “Go West” and their reasons for choosing this path. In 2012, UCM received an HEMR Silver Award in radio advertising, and, in 2011, was honored with four HEMR awards including Best of Show for the “Go West” branding campaign, the Gold Award for total advertising campaign, and two Bronze Awards for television advertising and radio advertising. UCM also won a Bronze Award in the local TV campaign, not-for-profit, category at the 2011 Telly Awards, the premiere honors for outstanding local, regional and cable television commercials and program.
