The West Georgia Textile Heritage Trail and Southeastern Quilt and Textile Museum will celebrate the first anniversary of the opening of the Quilt Museum and the Textile Trail’s Carrollton spur on Saturday, Sept. 14, at noon. This entire event, excluding the cost of dinner, is free and open to the public.
An exciting range of activities have been planned for the day, including a tour of the new Crazy Quilt exhibit at the museum, a walking tour of Carrollton’s textile heritage, and a crash course on Carrollton’s textile industry over an early dinner.
The event will begin with registration at the Quilt Museum, and during this time there will be a chance to view the new Crazy Quilt exhibit. The walking tour of Carrollton will begin at 2 p.m. at the Quilt Museum. The tour highlights various important locations associated with Carrollton’s past and present textile history. Among the notable locations are the Lawler Hoisery Mill, which has been renovated into loft apartments, and Blue Water Ropes, one of two operational textile-related mills in Carrollton.
Around 4 p.m., attendees are invited to dine at La Trattoria Restaurant where John Newell, who helped develop Blue Water Ropes and is a descendent of the renowned Mandeville family, will talk about his experiences as part of the Carrollton textile industry. Trail staff will also be on hand to update guests on trail activities and programs.
Guests of the walking tour are advised to wear comfortable clothing and shoes, and those planning on attending the dinner are welcome to view La Trattoria’s menu and prices at www.latrattoriaonthequare.com.
Those interested are encouraged to RSVP as soon as possible. To RSVP or for more information on the event, please contact Dustin Klein at the Center for Public History at 678-839-6141 or at wgtht@westga.edu.
