UWG Wolf Wellness and UWG Wolves Working Well recently hosted an “Eating Healthy” presentation by Anne Marie McGee, registered consulting dietitian and clinical health consultant for UWG Health Services. The presentation, held in Ingram Library, provided healthy eating tips for students.
During her presentation, Anne encouraged portion control by giving sample sizes of what portion to have of certain foods such as chicken, beef and steak. With the examples, she also presented two demonstration videos. One consisted of a comparison of how much sugar is in certain items like regular ranch dressing and light ranch dressing.
The second video was of UWG students in the East Commons cafeteria and the Z-6 Dining Hall. It gave students many tips on how to make healthy food choices at both dining halls. These examples included tips on creating a salad with a good choice of vegetables and fruit and ways to decrease sugar intake.
Lastly, Anne listed apps and websites to help students stay on track with a healthy diet. Fooducate (app) and Eating Well (website) are two examples that provide help in deciding what foods to consume.
“My goal on campus as a dietitian is to help make students more aware of their eating habits,” she says. “We have created two videos, ‘Eating at the Dining Hall’ and ‘Grocery Store Tour’ to educate students and faculty on how simple it is to make better food choices both on and off campus. I hope that these tools will push the UWG population towards a healthier lifestyle.”
