The University of West Georgia will host the basketball semifinals for the Georgia High School Association on Saturday, March 1, 2014. Doors will open at 2 p.m., and games will be held at 3:00, 4:45, 6:30 and 8:00 p.m. All games will be held within the UWG Coliseum.
“The reason we chose UWG for our semifinal site, and for other GHSA State Championship events, is actually two-fold,” said Ernie Yarbrough, associate director of GHSA. “First, and most importantly, the folks we work with at UWG are terrific. Eddie Duffey and Trent Ross bend over backwards to accommodate our events. They are so organized and really make us feel that they want our events at UWG. Second, the arena and various fields on campus really provide our student athletes with a tremendous experience.”
In the women’s semifinals, South Effingham High School will play Redan High School at 3:00 p.m., and Woodland High School will play Columbus High School at 6:30 p.m. In the men’s semifinals, Westover High School will play Columbia High School at 4:45 p.m. and Jonesboro High School will play Alexander High School at 8:15 p.m.
“We are excited that the Georgia High School Association wanted to bring the AAAA semi-finals to the University of West Georgia,” said UWG Coliseum Director Trent Ross. “This a great opportunity for the campus community to enjoy Georgia high school basketball at the highest level. Fans are guaranteed to see the 2014 AAAA Boy's and Girl's state championship teams in action on Saturday. The participants are equally excited to compete in one of the finest basketball venues in the Southeast. This partnership is a win for the campus and the community alike. We plan on maintaining this relationship for years to come and desire to become the preferred location for all GHSA indoor championships.”
Tickets will be $12, cash only. Parking will be available for $5 in front of the UWG Coliseum, across from Stadium Drive. Guests are invited to follow all game information on the UWG Coliseum Facebook page at www.facebook.com/TheUWGColiseum, on Twitter at @UWG_TheColiseum and on the website at www.westga.edu/coliseum.
