The University of West Georgia will host its fall commencement ceremony at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2013, in the UWG Coliseum. The ceremony will also be broadcasting live on the UWG website, www.westga.edu, for friends and family who cannot attend the ceremony in person. The university expects to confer approximately 474 undergraduate and 221 graduate degrees during this ceremony. The official number of degrees conferred will be available after December 19.
The fall 2013 commencement speaker is Dr. Brenda Fitzgerald, M.D. Dr. Fitzgerald, who has practiced medicine for three decades, is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist and a fellow in anti-aging medicine. She also serves as state health officer and the commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Health. Dr. Fitzgerald previously served as president of the Georgia OB-GYN Society and was a health care policy advisor with House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Senator Paul Coverdell. Locally, Dr. Fitzgerald has held board posts with Voices for Georgia’s Children, the Advanced Academy of West Georgia, the University of West Georgia Foundation and the Carrollton Rotary Club.
