AIA Georgia Award honors the Architecture of Ingram LibraryAn Association of The American Institute of Architects Georgia presented the 2013 Design Award to UWG’s Ingram Library, the Tom Murphy Office project and Houser Walker Architecture for 2013. The AIA Georgia’s Design Award honors architects, clients and consultants who work together to achieve design excellence.

“Our challenge was to modify a 1968 building for 21st century needs while adding a museum-quality replica of the office of Georgia’s longest-serving House Speaker,” says Dr. Lorene Flanders, professor and dean of Libraries at UWG. “The physical transformation of the library, coupled with an intensive instruction program and a welcoming customer service model provides strong support for students and faculty.”

Within the last year, 1.2 million people visited Ingram Library. The Tom Murphy Office installation and the on-campus Starbucks, located in Ingram Library, are a few new installments that have contributed to the increase in visitation.

“This beautiful facility serves as a campus and community cultural center, offering lectures, readings, exhibits, musical events and other programs that showcase scholarship and creative endeavor and highlight collections,” says Dr. Flanders.
