As the United States Manager of Security Operations for a large international company, my job for the last 11 years has been to keep our products and employees safe.
Sometimes it’s simple: I work with local police using GPS to track down a load of missing product; or maybe it’s funny, such as when thieves stole a container (not knowing what it was) only to discover and then abandon a load of feminine hygiene products. I’ve been awakened at 1 a.m. when there was violence at a facility and caught the next flight where I helped with the investigation. No two days are alike.
My degree in criminal justice from West Georgia College (1992) has served me well throughout the last 22 years. Beginning with a job as a private investigator, I did everything imaginable: sometimes I trailed unfaithful spouses; other times I would conduct worker’s compensation fraud investigations.
Working as a PI took me all over the country – a plus for this curious Georgia boy who had never left the Southeast but learned to love the adventures of travel. After returning home, I accepted several private investigator positions with different local companies until joining a corporate security department for a major retailer. Two years later, I accepted my current position for one of the largest companies in the world.
Every day, my company faces challenges like corporate fraud, theft, and workplace violence. The responsibilities are not only to catch criminals, but to manage security audits, investigations, and training.
Criminal justice graduates often work in public service such as law enforcement. I am fortunate to have found my niche in corporate security.
Travel for work takes me all over the world but there’s no place like home with my family in Sharpsburg, Georgia. I always enjoy bringing my daughters to the University of West Georgia campus to show them where it all began.
