Dr. Judy Butler, professor in the Department of Leadership and Instruction, has been a lifelong learner, despite numerous difficulties and setbacks throughout her life. Yet her passion to persevere and rise above it has led her to an outstanding professional career.

Through her own personal experiences, she knows firsthand that there are challenges and obstacles in life that can detour a college students’ path to success.
The University of West Georgia will now recognize the benefit of this knowledge thanks to Dr. Butler’s generous establishment of the Dr. Judy D. Butler Memorial Scholarship Endowment, and in addition, the Dr. Judy D. Butler Outstanding Mentor of Cooperating Teacher Award Fund.
“I’ve known Judy for many years and we’ve worked on many projects together,” said Dr. Micheal Crafton, provost and vice president for academic affairs. “Yet, I’ve never known her philanthropic side. She’s rather humble and keeps it quiet, which is a mark of her integrity.”
Each fund will benefit UWG’s College of Education. The scholarship endowment will benefit deserving UWG undergraduate or graduate students majoring in secondary education. The mentor or teacher award fund will benefit educators working in the College of Education to help students achieve success as educators.
“The College of Education is excited about this opportunity to assist mentoring teachers,” said Jada Marcum, director of annual giving. “This is right in line to help us reach our strategic imperative number one, student success. It is a great opportunity for us to recognize our teachers’ efforts in helping students be successful.”
“The funds you have put together will live in perpetuity. They will forever be here so future generations will benefit from your legacy and the direction you set forth,” said Dave Fraboni, vice president for university advancement. “You have created a lasting memory, so years from now, they will know about you. So, on behalf of our students and mentoring teachers, thank you.”
