The University of West Georgia’s $16.5 million state-of-the-art nursing building recently won first place in the 2014 Build Georgia Award by the Association of General Contractors of Georgia.

UWG Nursing Building Wins First Place in Build Georgia Award The AGC recognizes general contract members and their construction teams for their outstanding performances on some of Georgia’s most extraordinary projects, and this year the Tanner Health System School of Nursing was amongst those projects.

“We are grateful to Holder Construction, Smith Dalia Architects, our friends at Georgia State Financing and Investment Commission, the BOR and the UWG project team for this wonderful achievement,” exclaims Brendan Bowen, assistant vice president of campus planning and facilities at UWG.

The Tanner Health System School of Nursing is a 640,000-square-foot building that features problem-based and technologically advanced classrooms. Funding for the construction of a building for the nursing school was approved by the Board of Regents in 2011, and in 2013 a dedication was held honoring the official partnership and naming of the Tanner Health System School of Nursing.

“The Tanner Health System School of Nursing is truly state of the art in terms of the ideal environment for preparing nursing students for the complexities of delivering health care today and in the future,” concludes Dean of Tanner Health System School of Nursing Dr. Jenny Schuessler. “Speaking on behalf of all who had a part in making this incredible building a reality, it is an honor to be recognized with this award.”
