More Than Half of Advanced Academy Students Earn 4.0 GPA for Fall 2014

by Taylor Bryant

Twenty of 38 Advanced Academy students earned a perfect grade point average for the Fall 2014 semester. The semester and cumulative GPA of the 38 students both totaled a 3.8. Another notable accomplishment is that 18 of the 38 students were able to maintain a 4.0 cumulative GPA after last semester’s impressive averages.

More Than Half of Advanced Academy Students Earn 4.0 GPA for Fall 2014“By contributing collectively more than 600 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.8, the Advanced Academy is playing a key role in UWG's accomplishment of its strategic plan and the goals set forth by the USG,” said Dr. Michael Hester, dean of UWG Honors College. “We are extremely proud of our academy students for their amazing academic performance.”

High grade point averages are typically common among these students, and that trend continues as the Advanced Academy has seen a steady increase in the semester average since Spring 2013.

“Coming to the Advanced Academy has allowed me to challenge myself intellectually and reach my full potential as a student,” said academy student Christine Perez. “I enjoy being surrounded by like-minded peers that support me in my academic endeavors. Going to college early has not been easy, but with a little hard work and a lot of determination, it has been worth it!”

All 38 students were enrolled in college level courses. In addition to course work, some academy students participated in undergraduate research and attended various conferences throughout the semester to enhance their academic experience.

“For me, the academy has been more than an opportunity; it has been a blessing,” added student Trisha Dalapati. “I am able to take classes tailored to my interests and conduct chemistry research independently and with enthusiastic professors. Through the whole experience, my friends and the academy staff support and encourage me in all my endeavors. Altogether, the academy has helped me set my personal standards for success. My experience here further motivates me to continue challenging myself until I achieve my goals.”
