by Julie Lineback

The University of West Georgia's College of Science and Mathematics placed 18th in the nation for its online Information Technology program according to the 2016 ranking of online programs by U.S. News & World Report.

UWG’s Online Information Technology Program Ranked Top 20 in Nation“The College of Science and Mathematics at the University of West Georgia is proud to be able to claim such a reputable and recognized program,” said College of Science and Mathematics Interim Dean Dr. Scott Gordon. “We would like to congratulate our colleagues in the computer science department on this accomplishment and thank them for their hard work and dedication.”

The information technology ranking was based on several factors, including selectivity, graduation rates, and student services and technologies.
The list evaluated more than 12,000 online programs offered by nonprofit and for-profit institutions in the United States in categories of bachelor’s degrees and graduate-level programs in business, Master of Business Administration, education, engineering, nursing, criminal justice and computer information technology, and the top 145 are ranked in each category.

“We continue to be delighted with this national recognition and ranking by the U.S. News & World Report for the Best Online Graduate Computer Information Technology (CIT) Programs,” said Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer Science Dr. Adel Abunawass. “The online Master of Science in Applied Computer Science program at UWG has received this recognition since its inception, and is one of the highest ranking programs in Georgia.”

With virtually 100 percent job placement of graduates in the IT job market, the program has been an engine for economic growth in the state of Georgia and beyond, he explained.

“This recognition is another testament to the academic quality of the university’s educational programs, and to the exceptional work and tireless dedication of the most outstanding computer science faculty, exemplary staff, and caring community,” Dr. Abunawass concluded. “Indeed, this is yet another testament that UWG is the best place to work, learn, and succeed.”
