The University of West Georgia’s College of Education placed sixth in the nation for online doctoral education according to the 2016 ranking of online programs by GoGrad.org, a leading resource for graduate-level education.

Site Ranks Online Doctoral Education Program among Top Six in Nation“The College of Education at UWG is very proud of its doctoral programs, which draw students from around the world,” said COE Dean Dr. Dianne Hoff. “We are thrilled and honored to have received this ranking, which reflects the quality of our faculty and the innovative nature of our programs.”

The ranking is based on factors such as tuition, availability of academic and career counseling services, and availability of job placement services. Other schools listed in the top 10 include the University of Wyoming, the University of Florida, New Mexico State University, and East Tennessee State University.

“The recognition as an outstanding online doctoral program is exciting for our faculty, students, and alumni,” said Dr. Lara Willox, director of the Ed.D. in School Improvement program. "Beyond being a well-designed program, our program is also unique because of our interdisciplinary focus on school improvement. Our students and alumni are making a difference in education across the nation and beyond."

COE currently offers two doctoral degrees. The Ed.D. in School Improvement is a three-year, 60 credit-hour doctoral degree that offers students the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to make systemic changes to K-12 schools and educational systems. The Professional Counseling and Supervision Ed.D. is a 36 credit-hour program that can be completed in two years of continual studies and helps professional counselors to advance in their careers.

This is the second time in recent months that the College of Education has received national accolades. In January, U.S. News & World Report placed COE as 66th in the nation for online graduate education.
