Midnight Madness coming to The Coliseum

by Matt Cooke

The Madness is coming to Carrollton, Georgia.

On October 14, 2013, the University of West Georgia will present its 2013-14 men's and women's basketball teams at The Coliseum in the tradition known as Midnight Madness.

Midnight Madness coming to The Coliseum Every year, universities across the nation begin their practice year at midnight on the first night that the NCAA permits practice, which is October 15, each year. This year, for the second time ever and the first time under head coach Michael Cooney, UWG will take part in this time-honored tradition of beginning at midnight.

The Coliseum doors will open at 11:23 p.m. on Monday evening. Students and the community are invited to The Coliseum to enjoy free food, T-Shirts, games and prizes as we count down to midnight, when the basketball teams will take the floor for the first time in official practice for the 2013-14 season.

At midnight, UWG fans will have a chance to meet the Wolves on each of the 2013-14 basketball squads and will be treated to an exhibition of the talent that will be on the floor for West Georgia in the coming year. Three lucky fans will have the opportunity to be judges in a dunk contest, and one student will have a chance to be a contestant in a game of Knock Out with UWG athletes.

The UWG men's basketball squad will begin the 2013-14 season with exhibition matches against Jacksonville State on October 31 and at the University of Alabama on November 4. The regular season will begin on November 8 at the Mayaguez Classic in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. The Wolves will play their first home game on November 19 against Point at 7:30 p.m.

For the women's squad, the Wolves will begin the season at home on November 9 against the Georgia College Bobcats. The first night where both squads will be in action will be on Saturday, November 23, as both teams will take on Columbus State. The women's game will begin at 2 p.m. with the men to begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the women's contest.
