Coed Cheerleading Back On Top

by Matt Cooke

Coed Cheerleading Back On Top The University of West Georgia is a dynasty in the world of competitive cheerleading, and that dynasty picked up one more title at UCA Nationals this weekend, as the UWG Coed squad won the Division II competition at this year's event at the Disney's Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida.

This year's title has a special ring to it, as it marks the 10th UCA Championship for West Georgia since 2002.

The coed squad was the first among the UWG cheerleading teams to make waves at UCA Nationals in the early 2000s, winning eight straight titles. The Wolves missed out on the championship in 2010, but returned to the top in 2011. This year's title marks the first since that season for the coed cheerleaders.

In the All-Girl Competition, the Wolves came up in second place in their second season of competition in Division I, falling to the 2014 champion Morehead State. That snapped a string of three straight titles for the UWG All-Girl Squad.
