UWG Alumna Promoted to Assistant Director

by Nikole Gianopoulos

Over the past few months there have been several changes made to the Office of Development and Alumni Relations. University of West Georgia alumna Meredith Ledbetter, who graduated from UWG in 2009, has recently been promoted to assistant director of alumni relations.

UWG Alumna Promoted to Assistant Director Meredith transferred to UWG in 2007 in hopes of following in her father’s footsteps, who is an UWG alumnus.

“I liked the campus and really enjoyed the interactions between the professors and myself,” says Meredith, who claims that she had to work hard for her good grades in college. “I knew that the professors truly cared about my success.”

Knowing that she had a passion for interacting with people, Meredith decided to major in business management.

“I enjoy meeting people and making connections, and I knew business would be a good area for me to be in,” states Meredith, who started out as a leasing consultant in Carrollton at a local student community. Upon graduation she was hired as a property manager of a 120 unit property and became involved in the Young Alumni Council. In 2012 she was hired to be the coordinator of alumni relations where she focused on creating strong relationships with the alumni and coordinating events and programs.

After two years of hard work, Meredith is now the assistant director of alumni relations where she aims to build and improve relationships with UWG alumni.

“It’s more than just planning the events and programs,” she explains. “It’s about meeting our alumni and understanding what they’re expecting so we can do our job effectively and create an outstanding alumni program.”

In her new role as assistant director, Meredith hopes to make current UWG students aware of the benefits and programs that the alumni relations office has to offer.

“This relationship doesn’t end between the student and UWG upon graduation. Students can still have a relationship with UWG even though they are not physically here,” she concludes. “I’m honored that I was given this position, and I’m excited to know that my leaders know and trust that I can help move the program forward.”
